10/12/10

Not much to update here, I've been working a lot which is good and bad, making the money, but not having much time for anything else. I work mostly all late shifts so I go into work at 4pm and finish up around 12:30am. It's nice because it's not as hectic as it is in the morning, I find I have more time to talk to guests and make conversation while helping them with their bags. I had a guest who came in last week and he wanted to know about the dining plan, I wasn't busy so I took him over to concierge and we learned the dining plan together. Who knew Kouzzina Restaurant counted as 2 points on the meal plan? I sure didn't. Anyways, I've seen him each day and he has remembered me by name and always comes up to say hi and update me on he and his wife's vacation. These are the guests I live for, the ones who truly appreciate what you do for them and are as kind to you as you are to them. They left yesterday and I was sad to see them go.

I'm adapting well to working late. I work till midnight, play some Halo or Call of Duty with my roommates till 2ish, then head to bed, wake up at 11, chill or workout, then go to work, and repeat haha. I've started working out again which is awesome, I'm glad I'm back in the groove.

I can't seem to keep my room clean for more than a few days. I try to tell myself that I'm a clean person and I need to keep my room clean, but I never stick to it. Oh well, there are worse habits to have. Everything has its place, right?

I just went around and confirmed the reservations for my family and friends next week. I'm so pumped! It's gonna be a busy week, but I'm so excited to see everyone. I'm staying with my friends at the All-Star Movies Resort and am so excited for a change of scenery and time away from apartment living. I've got so much planned, it's gonna be epic.

The weather has been amazing the past few days. It's a little steamy today, but beautiful none the less. No clouds, a cool breeze, pretty sweet. It's supposed to stay in the low 80's for a while, then I guess it'll start getting cooler. Floridians freak out about having their coldest winter last winter, I asked one what was the record low and he responded somewhere in the low 30's. I think I laughed out loud. I mean, that's cold for Florida but I'm used to a whole lot colder haha. I love cold weather, it makes me feel so good that Fall and Winter are coming. My favorite seasons coming up, I can wear sweatpants and jackets again. It's too hot in the summer down here, humid and gross, I'm not a fan.

My biggest observation so far of this internship experience is that it has made me miss being at HPU and being a student. I am totally not ready to be fully employed yet. Believe it or not, I miss having papers due and having homework. Mainly because I am able to do it on my own time. Down here, I have to follow a strict schedule. I don't mind it, but I would rather do things when inspiration hits me. I miss the baseball team and hanging out with my friends. I really am excited to go back to school. I have a much to learn about business before I move on and find a job in the real world.

I cannot wait for my family and friends to get down here. I haven't seen them in forever and am so excited to see them. I'll probably post after they come down. ttfn.

10/1/10

I went to Disney's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party last night, and man was it awesome! I've never seen so many people dressed up for a party. There were candy stations all over the Magic Kingdom where we could fill our bags full of duhlicious treats. I rode Space Mountain for the first time and it was awesome, though I was scared to death I was going to hit my head, the picture was of me ducking in my seat haha. I took a lot of great pictures, I'll post them on facebook here shortly. The fireworks and parade were fantastic as well. The parade was fun and featured one of my favorite characters, Pooh Bear! I love him. I think I'm going a couple more times with family when they come down, which makes me very excited. The Food and Wine festival has started so I'm excited to head over there to taste food from around the world.

One of my pet peeves right now is seeing grown men around me act very immature. I know several people down here who don't even clean up after themselves. They leave stuff all over the place thinking that it'll magically disappear. Now, this is Disney (joke), but I don't get it, how did they make it to this point in life without any responsibility, I mean these guys are older than I am! They act childish, argue about stupid things, will never let you get a word in, and just overall don't have a respect for what they have. They shy away from owning up to their mistakes and will never admit that they are wrong. I see it in the workplace to. People I work with will do anything in their power to put the blame on someone else. It's sad. Accept responsibility for your actions and take care of your own business. Seeing their behavior makes me even more grateful for my disciplined upbringing from my parents. Without them, I would not be the man I am today. Now again, I am not perfect, very far from it in fact. But what I see is basic stuff that I learned when I was an adolescent, comparable to tying your shoes. I had a great mentor who taught me the fine art of being man and standing up when everyone else lays down, I'm lookin' at you dad.

I'm gonna keep rolling here, one thing that is becoming more perceivable to me as I continue this internship is the concept of chivalry is becoming less and less apparent in every day life. I can't tell you how many times I've held the door for someone standing 10 plus feet away from a door and have gotten a look of, "are you crazy?" No, I'm not crazy, I'm being polite. I say thank you to a guy working the drive through and he stares at me like I have lobsters coming out of my ears. It's like people have forgotten what chivalry and courtesy are. I'm not saying I'm a knight in shining armor, but I believe that being nice and respectful to all people no matter what their situation is the right thing to do. It's also how Christ taught us to live. Love thy neighbor right? I choose to live this way because I feel satisfied knowing that I made someone's day a tad brighter by showing that little ounce of courtesy and respect, and I know for a fact, Jesus would have done the same thing. They may not show it, but I know they appreciate it. It makes me sad to think that chivalry is in a state of remission. People say that nice guys finish last. I consider myself a nice guy and am proud of it. I don't mind finishing last, in the words of one of my favorite bands, stellar kart:

I want to finish last
Last in the world's eyes
No matter what I do
I will be first in Your eyes.

I'll finish last in the world's eyes any day, as long as I am first in God's eyes. Wow, what an angst ridden post, I'm off my soap box now, I gotta go do some laundry.
